Calosso, a background of vast vineyards, is a small town in the south of Piemonte on the last hills of the Monferrato region near the Langhe. A small amount of sand, layers of grass and a large amount of limestone represent the pathological characteristics of this land. Unique season after season, it operates in silence and allows the production of wines of excellent quality. On the hill of San Siro surrounded by its vineyards is the farmhouse Scagliola. For four generations, the Scagliola family has been dedicated to cultivating its vineyards with healthy, caring and clean viticulture; in full respect of nature and the biological balance of the vine, without any forcing; With low yields per hectare.

Plant health treatments are based on the principles of integrated pest control.Field surveys and meteorological data processed with the help of technicians specialised in viticulture make it possible to reduce interventions to a minimum. Fertilisations are minimal and based solely on the consumption of restocking. An attempt is made to regulate excess production at the source by intervening in the management of vineyards. In winter with pruning, we limit ourselves to leaving just a head of fruit with a few buds and a spur for renewal. In the spring, three beehive trimmings and a light stripping in the area of the cluster are usually practised to prevent late blight attacks.

In the summertime, surplus clusters are removed. This practice, called green harvesting, is carried out in order to reduce the amount of grapes produced and raise the quality with great results in the cellar. The skillful processing of the vineyards, the rational use of cellar technologies together with the careful selection of grapes and musts, enhance the production of a limited number of bottles capable of expressing all the great potential of the wines of this land, destined for true connoisseurs. The domain extends over 35 hectares, all situated at 350/400 m altitude.Among these vineyards, the Scagliola family besides the classic Moscato and Barbera, is also produced in limited quantities Dolcetto, Cortese, Chardonnay, Grignolino, Nebbiolo, Brachetto and Pinot Noir.
