The ridge on which the Mondo family winery stands, looks like the profile of a woman lying down, asleep. The particular composition of the soil (medium texture) and a temperate microclimate make it the ideal place for growing vines.
In San Marzano Oliveto, in the Astigiano region, the Mondo family has been esteemed vintners for generations; their property covers about twelve hectares of vineyards planted with about 60% Barbera. The rest is composed of Moscato Bianco, Dolcetto, Cortese, Chardonnay, Favorita and Cabernet Sauvignon.
At the helm of the winery, which maintains an artisanal family character, are Valerio with his daughter Beatrice and his father Franco. Valerio and Beatrice are oenologists and, in addition to taking care of the vineyards from an agronomic point of view, follow step by step the grape selection and winemaking carried out in the family farmhouse. Franco, an expert winemaker, takes care of the vine processing.
Among the top wines, all of Mondos wine production is D.O.C. and D.O.C.G. Barbera dAsti occupies a prominent position with Barbera dAsti docg, Barbera dAsti Superiore and Barbera DAsti Superiore Nizza. Rounding out the range are the other wines: Moscato dAsti, Passito di Moscato, Cortese dellAlto Monferrato, Monferrato Bianco, Monferrato Rosso, Monferrato Dolcetto and Grappa made by artfully distilling the pomace of Moscato and Barbera.
