Armangias activity began in 1988, when it took over the family vineyards located on the S. Antonio hill and purchased other land with a high vocation in the Castellero area. In fact, the Giovine family has been in the wine business since 1850 under the Giovine Ignazio brand. After five years of viticultural and oenological experimentation, the first harvest was fully vinified in 1993, from which the first white wines were obtained. The 1995 harvest also brought a Moscato dAsti Docg and a Barbera dAsti superiore aged in wood, the prototype of the current Nizza docg.
The estates vineyard surface area is about 10.50 ha, planted to Barbera, Moscato bianco di Canelli, Nebbiolo, Albarossa, Chardonnay, Dolcetto, Merlot, Cabernet S. and Sauvignon blanc. Annual production is around 95,000 bottles.
The vineyards have been managed since 1988 according to eco-friendly criteria that are much stricter than those required by recent EU regulations, resorting to total grassing of the land (no chemical weeding), sustainable pest control, and a 90% reduction in fertilisation, now localised in the areas most in need and based on organic fertilisers.
The main vineyards of Nizza docg, Moscato di Canelli and Chardonnay are located in areas that are very different from a pedoclimatic point of view, aiming at the best combination of vine, soil and microclimate.
