The farm of Silvia Castagnero in Agliano Terme (Asti, Piedmont, Italy) is located in the heart of the wine landscapes of Monferrato and Lange-Roero, classified as World Heritage by UNESCO. This is Piedmont, which is in the western part of northern Italy. Piedmont means at the foot of the mountains, indicating an area protected by mountains that creates a perfect microclimate for the vineyards. It is managed by Silvia, her husband Daniele Nori, her stepchild Gabriele Ormea and her brother Giovanni. It is a property inherited by Papa Giuseppe, who loved Barbera and made wine for passion. To him the dedication of A Te (To you) on certain wine labels to keep Giovannis promise to pursue the cellar. Today the winery has about 13 hectares, of which five and a half is vineyards; the rest is planted with fruit, hazelnuts, forest and 2 hectares of fields with barley and industrial hemp, with which Edfil craft beer is produced: in fact, the Castagnero family complements the winery with a craft brewery.
Only native grape varieties and wines are grown and produced in the vineyard: Barbera dAsti, Grignolino dAsti, Cortese. Annual production today is about 15-20 thousand bottles. With the new vineyards, the potential rises to over 40 thousand bottles: a goal that the Castagnero family wants to reach in a few years. Winery and vineyards are at the highest point of Agliano, over 250 m above sea level: that is why it is called the " Casa del Bric ", the house on the hill. The " Vigna Coca "is the oldest of the vineyards: over 100 years old, it is planted with Barbera and is protected by a large walnut tree that stands out in the centre. Thousands of years ago, where the Castagnero winery has its vineyards today, there was a sea that helped forming soils rich of precious elements and minerals. Eight of Castagneros signature labels:
